Mission Statement

CORE – Community-Opportunity-Reentry-Education is a program dedicated to supporting individuals who are transitioning out of Washington state’s correctional system. Our mission is to provide transitional services that empower these individuals to successfully reintegrate into society. Through advocacy, case management, and volunteer mentors, we offer guidance and support to help navigate the challenges faced during the reentry process. Additionally, we provide training and employment classes to enhance skills and increase our client’s chances of securing meaningful employment. Understanding the importance of stability in reducing recidivism, we provide free onsite services such as a clothing closet, hygiene kits,  bus passes, and assistance finding housing and legal resources within the community. We offer court ordered classes as well as family reunification services such as mediation, parenting classes, and supervised child visitation. At CORE, we are committed to helping justice involved individuals rebuild their lives and find a sense of belonging within their community.

About Community Reentry

Community reentry programs play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful rehabilitation and integration of individuals who are exiting the correctional system. These programs are crucial as they provide a structured and supportive environment that helps former inmates reintegrate into society, reduce recidivism rates, and rebuild their lives. By fostering a sense of belonging and stability, these programs contribute significantly to breaking the cycle of incarceration and promoting the long-term success of individuals in their journey toward reintegration into society. Community reentry programs offer access to essential social services such as shelter, basic necessities, clothing, and employment, which are critical for individuals as they transition back into the community. By addressing these fundamental needs, these programs help former inmates build a stable foundation, ultimately reducing the likelihood of re-offending and enhancing public safety.

Testimonials

“The past 10 years of my life I spent in and out of jail and addicted to drugs. Leaving that life behind and trying to make something of myself was terrifying at the start. When I went to Fulcrum institute C.O.R.E. I was fresh out of Inpatient treatment and I had so many goals for myself. I just wasn’t yet confident that I would be able to achieve them. It had been so long since I had even thought about a resume and if I was able to get an interview for a job I had absolutely nothing appropriate to wear. I left my appointment at Fulcrum with a resume I was proud of, a few different business casual outfits, bus passes, hygiene items I really needed and most importantly faith in myself! I felt I finally had everything I needed to succeed in reaching my goals. One of which was getting a job at SPARC The treatment center I had graduated from.  When I went to my interview I was able to present my best self and got the job!

Now, months later I still have the job of my dreams and I recommend Fulcrum institute CORE to everyone I can because I truly owe so much of my success to them for providing me with the tools I needed to succeed.”

The help I received from CORE has been invaluable. Being released from jail with nothing was hard. But with the help from CORE I was able to get back on my feet quickly due to them. Erica’s help with getting back into being an active and contributing member of society has helped me to stay stable and return to the workforce in a quickly and timely manner. Her help with employment services, appropriate clothing, hygiene, housing and any other needs as they arise have meant a lot to me. Erica has been a rock star to my jail transition and I am very grateful for the help she has provided. Thank you.

“CORE has been a Godsend ever since I got out of my incarceration. I’ve been recently divorced and living at the UGM. I was lost feeling overwhelmed with what I needed to do to get my life back on track, and Lisa and Erica helped me in every aspect of rebuilding my new life, getting my legal problems taken care of. Helped me to get around town, and put clothes on my back when I had none and shoes on my feet! If it weren’t for CORE I most likely would be back in jail or using drugs and alcohol again, or even worse.”

“My experience with CORE at the Fulcrum Institute has been extremely beneficial and productive for me in the first few months after my release from incarceration in the Washington State prison system.  The assistance with clothing, hygiene and basic essentials, and transportation has been a savior for me allowing me to feel good about myself and travel around Spokane to accomplish my goals and meet my healthcare needs.  I was also privileged to be given employment search advice and resume building skills through CORE.  The team at the office was very kind and supportive and they also made sure to keep in contact when times got busy and I could not make it there in a while.  I really appreciate the help CORE provided me and I have had no problems sending others I meet in my position their way.  Thank you again for all your help.”
