GRADE LEVEL

Middle School and High School, grades 7 -12.

Overview

Students will gain comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to understand, identify and navigate issues related to sexual exploitation. The program will cover definitions, laws, and dynamics surrounding sexual exploitation, grooming, online safety, and child sex trafficking. Lessons provide information on resources and support systems, to enable students to seek help and advocate for their safety and well-being effectively.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understanding Sexual Exploitation: Define child sexual exploitation of minors, the applicable laws, and clarify age requirements of a minor.
  • Grooming: Define grooming, discuss it’s signs, and explore who may be involved and targeted.
  • Online Safety:  Emphasize privacy settings, interactions with strangers, discuss the implications of sharing photos or videos online, the consequences of sexting, and the dangers of sextortion.
  • Child Sex Trafficking: Define child sex trafficking, redefine stigmas and stereotypes that surround victims and perpetrators.
  • Identifying Risk and Protective Factors: Teach participants to recognize indicators, tactics, and how to identify the threats of exploitation and trafficking.
  • Responding to Exploitation: Teach participants how to take the appropriate steps to reporting incidents.
  • Identifying Resources: Provide information on advocacy groups and other resources available for help and support.
